Accessibility
Last updated October 29, 2026.
We want everyone to be able to plan, shop and cook with Honest Dinner, including people who use a screen reader, larger text, a keyboard or switch control, or who see colors differently. We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, and we check our work.
What works today
- Labels. Buttons, fields and choices have names a screen reader can read, and pages have headings in order, so you can jump between them.
- Contrast. Text is dark on a light page, or light on a dark one, well above the 4.5 to 1 contrast the guidelines ask for. Nothing depends on color alone: a chosen item also gets a check mark or a word.
- Larger text. The app follows your phone's text size, and pages reflow to fit instead of scrolling sideways.
- Keyboard. The website and the app's main screens work with a keyboard alone, with a visible outline on whatever has focus.
- Screen readers. Sign-up, your week, the shopping list and cook mode are built to be read by VoiceOver on iPhone and by screen readers on the web. Pictures of dishes are decoration; every dish is named in words.
- Big targets. Buttons are at least 44 points, and cook mode's are larger, for messy hands.
- Calm motion. If your phone asks for less motion, nothing moves. Our little animations play once and stop within five seconds.
- Light and dark. The app follows your phone, or you can choose in Settings.
- Timers show the time left on screen, and ring with a sound and a vibration.
What we know isn't right yet
- Reading a flyer needs a photo or a PDF. If that's hard for you, choose a store whose deals come in on their own, or write to us and we'll help.
- A few screens in the app are missing the page landmarks some screen reader users jump between, and two skip a heading level. Everything is still labeled and readable; we're tidying these.
Tell us what gets in your way
Write to patrick@honestdinner.com, or tap Report a problem in the app. A real person reads every note, usually within a day. Tell us the screen, what you were trying to do, and what you use (for example VoiceOver or large text) if you like.
Our promise: we fix what you report. If a fix takes time, we'll tell you when to expect it, and help you another way in the meantime.
